If I could use a term to describe the new Cee-Lo album it would be, and I quote, "Retro Hip-Hop" it’s authentic sound of soulful melodies that influenced Cee-Lo as an artist shine as bright as the Cosmic star that sent Mr. Green here to earth. There is no room for stereotypes on this album. Not every hip hop artist has sold their soul for all that glitters. Cee Lo has always remained true to who is as an artist, regardless of who was judging. The South has never sounded so Motown then now. When I say Motown, I am referring to that old Detroit Michigan soul aching, back ground lady singing, heart wrenching music. The Kind of music that would make Al Green turn over in his grave, because the soulful beats are too strong to resist.
Saying I have many favorite tracks would be the honest truth, but pinning them down to just a few is hard as ever! One track that seem to stick out with the loudest of Jam sessions is "I want You" His church like thank you Lords are so heartfelt and sincere, you can't help but sing along with his praises of thanks for his beloved.
His whole album is full of toe tapping hits. I envision little cupids flying around bouncing along to the beat as they shoot their arrows of love through my speakers.
His first single FU is a standout, with its racy lyrics and in your face freedom of speech statement. To many like I, this is one of the catchiest ways to flip someone the bird via soul music. Yet he only remains heartbroken and bitter on this one track. All others seem to tell a story of a love he has come to know, and seems to adore very much.
This album is like a fine wine, aged and good to the last drop! With the constant saturation of pop music, with its machine beats, and lack of instruments Cee Lo busts in the room with full band backup singers and orchestra trailing behind, All the while belting out his feelings and emotions in the most harmonic way.My last words, GO BUY THIS FUCKIN' ALBUM IT ROCKS!
